Monte Alto

Located 6km from the village of Campo Maior, Monte Alto is an estate owned by a family connected to farming for more than five generations now, and it is their first tourism unit. At Monte Alto the guests can experience the essence of the portuguese country life, because being a farmer is much more than producing food and vegetables!
An exclusive retreat with only 8 rooms, Monte Alto is the perfect site to enjoy the good things nature has to offer. In a rural, yet charming and comfortable country house, enjoy your free time reading a book by the fireplace, take a walk outside or go for a bike tour, take a lot of photographs and create memories.
A traditional house was rebuilt and a large diningroom and a livingroom where added. The various spaces have been decorated to create an atmosphere of tranquility and well-being. From the large windows of the living and diningroom, the bedrooms windows and the porches, the guests can enjoy the wonderful and relaxing view of the holm oak forest and the “Serra de São Mamede”.
The livingroom with a fireplace, with large windows that make us feel part of everything that surrounds us, the porches and the patio allow each guest to choose the ideal place for each moment.
Breakfast is served in the large and bright dining area, where our guests can start their day enjoying the panoramic view and tasting some regional products and the already famous Céus’ carrot cake.
The estate is characterized by vast areas of holm oaks and the grazing of alentejano pigs’ breed (black pig) and sheep, in a sustainable and organic farming. In the vegetable garden local varieties of vegetables are used, which are more adapted to the climate and to the existing soil, whilst the fertilization is done with the manure of the sheep of the homestead. The farm borders on the Abrilongo dam, perfect place for a morning of fishery, a picnic or a walk and where one can put a foot in Spain and another in Portugal. This privileged location gives Monte Alto a sense of peace and quiet, where time goes by slowly and where our guests can enjoy nature and everything that goes with it.
The eight bedrooms are all different, but they all have something in common: comfortably decorated and with an endless view to the fields. All rooms have a private bathroom, air conditioning and flat-screen TV.
